1. What Brown Bazaar is

Brown Bazaar is a marketplace where students at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of

Design buy and sell secondhand items from each other and hand them off in person on campus.

We are a venue, not a seller. Every listing is created by a student. When you buy something,

your contract is with the seller, not with us. We do not own, inspect, store, ship, or guarantee

any item.

**We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Brown University or the Rhode Island

School of Design.** School names, email domains, and the campus locations we list are used only to

identify the community the app serves.

2. Who can use it

You may use Brown Bazaar if all of these are true:

We verify your school by the domain of the email address you sign up with and by requiring you to

click a link we send to it. We do not otherwise confirm enrollment. If you stop being able to

receive email at that address, you may lose access to your account.

One account per person. Do not share your login, and tell us at asafgreenfield21+brownshop@gmail.com if you think

someone else has it.

3. Your account and your content

You choose a username, a display name, a bio, and a photo, and you post listings with photos and

descriptions. All of that is your content. You keep ownership of it.

By posting content you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store,

resize, and display it inside Brown Bazaar for as long as your account exists, so the app can

function. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies inside

completed order records, reviews, and message threads (see §11).

You promise that:

4. What you may not sell or do

Prohibited items. No weapons, ammunition, or replicas designed to look real. No alcohol,

tobacco, vapes, cannabis, or any controlled substance or paraphernalia. No prescription or

over-the-counter medication, supplements, or medical devices. No counterfeit or replica branded

goods. No stolen goods, and nothing you are not allowed to resell (including university property,

lab equipment, keys, or ID cards). No live animals. No food you made yourself. No used underwear,

swimwear bottoms, or cosmetics that have been opened. No adult or sexually explicit material. No

services, labour, tickets to events you are not permitted to transfer, academic work, tutoring, or

anything that would violate your school's academic code. No digital goods, gift cards, currency,

or crypto. No recalled or unsafe products. No firearms accessories, fireworks, or hazardous

materials.

Prohibited behaviour. No harassment, threats, hate speech, stalking, or unwanted contact after

someone blocks you. No spam, bulk messaging, or advertising other services. No arranging payment

outside the app to dodge fees. No scraping, reverse engineering, or automated access. No attempts

to break our access controls or to reach data that is not yours. No using Brown Bazaar to run a

retail or dropshipping business.

We may remove any listing, message, or account that breaks these rules, with or without notice.

5. Buying and selling

Prices are set by sellers. Buyers can send offers; sellers can accept, decline, or counter

once. Offers expire 48 hours after they are made or countered.

Payment happens in the app. We use Stripe to process card payments and

to pay sellers. We never see or store your full card number. Sellers must complete Stripe's

onboarding (including identity verification) before they can be paid.

We hold the money until the handoff. When you buy, your card is charged and the funds are held.

The seller offers meetup times; you pick one; you meet on campus and exchange the item. **The

money is released to the seller when the buyer confirms the exchange in the app.** A seller

confirming alone never completes an order.

Fees. Brown Bazaar keeps a platform fee of 3.5% of the item price plus $0.45 on each

completed sale. The buyer pays the listed price; the fee comes out of the seller's payout, and both

numbers are shown before you commit. Fees may change with notice for future orders.

Cancellations and refunds. Either side can cancel before the handoff is confirmed; the buyer is

refunded in full to the original payment method and the listing goes back up for sale. Refunds take

as long as the card network takes, usually 5–10 business days. If a meetup never happens, cancel the

order — do not just stop responding.

Disputes. We are not a court and we do not arbitrate who is right about an item's condition.

We will look at reports, and we can cancel and refund an order, remove a listing, or suspend an

account. Chargebacks initiated with your bank may result in your account being suspended while

they are resolved.

Taxes. Selling your own used belongings for less than you paid is usually not taxable income,

but you are responsible for your own taxes. If you sell enough that Stripe must file a form for you,

Stripe will collect what it needs directly.

6. Meeting in person — read this part

Every Brown Bazaar transaction ends with two people meeting. **We do not vet, background-check, or

supervise anyone.** Verifying a school email is not a safety guarantee.

You meet at your own risk, and you accept that risk when you use Brown Bazaar.

7. Reporting and blocking

Every profile, listing, message thread, and order has a Report action, and you can block

anyone. Blocking stops them from messaging you or making offers, and hides their listings from you.

Reports are private — the person you report is not told who reported them. We review reports and

act at our discretion; we are not obliged to tell you the outcome.

8. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you break these terms, if we are required

to, or if we reasonably believe you are putting other people at risk. You can stop using Brown Bazaar

whenever you want, and you can delete your account in Settings → Delete account (see §11).

Open orders survive termination: money already held is still refunded or released according to §5.

9. Disclaimers

Brown Bazaar is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we

disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular

purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the app will be uninterrupted, secure, or

error-free.

We make no warranty about any item, any seller, or any buyer — including that an item is

authentic, safe, functional, as described, or legally yours to sell or to own.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

lost profits or lost data.

the fees we collected from you in the 12 months before the claim, or $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits; where that is true, they apply to the extent

permitted.

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your items, your conduct, or

your breach of these terms.

11. Account deletion and what we keep

Deleting your account removes your profile details, your listings, and your likes, and signs you

out everywhere. Because other people's records cannot be rewritten, your **past orders, reviews you

wrote and received, and your messages stay**, with your name shown as "Deleted user." You cannot

delete your account while you have orders in flight — finish or cancel them first.

What happens to your personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Changes

We may change these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app or by email before

it takes effect. Continuing to use Brown Bazaar after that means you accept the new terms.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Rhode Island, without regard to conflict-of-law

rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by talking to us at asafgreenfield21+brownshop@gmail.com will be brought

in the state or federal courts located in Providence County, Rhode Island, and you and we consent to

that jurisdiction.
